Band Weaving - Rigid Heddle and Inkle
Weaving straps, belts and borders for garments was an important skill for a textile crafter of the past. Two ways to weave bands (in addition to tablet weaving, which I also do) are by using an inkle loom or a rigid heddle. Rigid heddles are a simple little gadget featuring alternating slots and holes, which are used to change the thread positions. They date back to at least the Roman era in Britain and I love teaching both adults and children how to use them to create beautiful mini pieces.
