Talks
My illustrated and costumed talks aim to share the history and practise of textiles with community groups and other audiences. They include a selection of original artefacts, replicas and materials for handling and demonstrations of techniques. I'm always adding more topics to my list and I'm happy to discuss tailoring options for different groups and settings.
These are the talks that are currently ready to go:
- Ancient Textiles from the Stone Age to the Romans; Exploring the evolving production of textiles within wider material culture. An overview of the beginnings of clothing in Britain and nearby Europe across the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages and into the Roman era.
- Viking Attire; Clothing, adornment and armour of men and women in the Viking Age across Britain and Scandinavia. Featuring an overview of textile manufacturing techniques and the archaeological evidence behind them.
- Reenacting Viking York; Exploring the Viking excavations in Coppergate, York. This talk discusses the textile finds from the dig and their influence on creating a persona for Viking reenactment, focussing on Nalbinding, tablet weaving and natural dying.
